Hotel next to the Latin Quarter in the heart of Paris

Rue du Bac, a mere stone's throw from the Latin Quarter

Hotel Saint-Germain is located in Rue du Bac in the 7th arrondissement in Paris, right next to the delightful Latin Quarter. Rue du Bac is an interesting street and offers some fascinating attractions:

The Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-la-Médaille-Miraculeuse (Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal) where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré and offered the world a Miraculous Medal on 19 July 1830. This Chapel, located at 140 Rue du Bac, belongs to the Daughters of Charity. It is built on the site where the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared and is now a pilgrimage site.

Le Bon Marché department store was founded in 1838 by the Videau brothers, and was the first ‘Grand Magasin’, selling a huge range of goods at fixed prices and allowing the public to walk in and see the goods displayed in the sales area. It was followed by the Grands Magasins du Louvre: La Belle Jardinière, Le Printemps and La Samaritaine. It was acquired by the LVMH group in 1984 and is now the leading luxury store on the Left Bank.

The very first French ‘Grand Magasin’ can be found in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, at 24 Rue de Sèvres, on the corner between Rue de Babylone and Rue du Bac.

Other collections can be seen at the Louvre Museum. This is one of the finest museums in the world, and boasts celebrated collections and famous attractions.

After that, you might consider a stroll along the banks of the Seine, or through Jardins des Tuileries or the Luxembourg Gardens.

Other must-do activities: visits to art galleries in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, antique shops in the Carré Rive Gauche, designer boutiques in the Faubourg Saint-Germain and the boutiques of leading fashion designers.

And to top it off, revel in the charm of the traditional Saint-Germain-des-Prés literary cafés.
